The Man-Nurse Diaries: Breastfeeding and SIDS prevention - and sleep apne...

Very interesting information on how breastfeeding affects the development of the mouth. Makes me glad I chose to breastfeed and didn't give a pacifier. It would be interesting to read more information on this. I would think this information would be important for mothers to know before deciding if they want to breastfeed or not. A mother's decision affects their baby the rest of his or her life in many different ways.

Be a Bosom Buddy

Be a Bosom Buddy

Click on the above link! Excellent article on how to be encouraging and not judgmental about breastfeeding.

As I have become more passionate about helping others get passed misconceptions or troubleshooting with breastfeeding the more I am trying to understand everything involved. This article is helpful. Guilting somebody into breastfeeding is not helpful. The writers of the above blog are very good at being encouraging and accepting everybody's situation. They have great information and are on Facebook also.

Temporarily Overwhelmed

I wish I had read this article Why African baby's don't cry...   instead of other books (I threw away Babywise) or websites that focused on me more than the baby.  We would have started out a little differently and hadn't struggled as much. Instead of following others' advice I would have followed my baby's needs instead. Which, ultimately I eventually did. She knew how much she needed to eat or how much comfort she needed. So, on-demand breastfeeding it became. No lack of milk here. Supply and demand. She demanded it; I supplied it. I guess that is usually the way it works as long as I ate well and drank enough water.

I'm not saying it was easy. It was overwhelming to breastfeed my baby constantly. It was the same thing over and over. Lots of TV, lots of computer, lots of reading, some phone calls. The house was a mess.  But it kept her fed and content and everything else that comes with breastfeeding.

Thinking about doing that with our next baby (whenever that may be) can be a bit overwhelming ...but breastfeeding that much was temporary. Such a small time in her/my life. It can be done.

Why?

Why a blog about feeding a baby? Through my experiences and learning from reading and from other people I have found a lot of help and a lot of misconceptions. I'd like to help others and babyfeeding is a big part of my life right now and the past 14 months. If I help one person learn something from this blog it is well worth it.
